Shhh…don’t tell, but I got a sneak peek at the upcoming Festival of the Sound program for 2013. As always, an fantastic program has been planned with an incredible cast of musicians performing once again this year!
Parry Sound is so lucky to be home to Canada's premier classical music event, held in The Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts, right on Georgian Bay.
Entering it's 34th year, opening Week runs from July 18 – 21st and will feature The Elmer Isler Singers, The Hannaford Street Silver Band, The Opera Gala and a Viennese Masked Ball.
Week 1 (July 22 – 28th) is entitled Voice Lost, Voices Eternal and mixes things up with several string groups – including the Gryphon Trio, Tiberius and & New Zealand String Quartets ; the Swingle Singers and The Star of Robbie Burns
Week 2 (July 29 – August 2nd) is called the Voices of Greatness and features Handel’s Acis and Galatea, a repeat visit from The Afiara and Cecilia String Quartets, the RBC Stockey Young Artists and a Piano Celebration
If you are one of those who love jazz, August 3 – 5th will be a tribute to Dave Brubeck who died this past December at the age 92. Gene DiNovi and the Toronto AllStar Big Band are featured during this weekend.
The final week (August 6 – 11th) has been named Exiles and Emigres, Leslie Fagan and Guy Few, The Orford Six will be performing. Some of the music will be the Carnival of the Animals, Carmina Burana and Bach Comes Home.
