The Bobby Orr Hall of Fame

I just finished reading Bobby Orr’s book “ORR My Story” and really enjoyed it. orr

One reason is that it really reflects the man – unassuming, kind and grateful for the opportunities he has had over the years. He also uses it as a vehicle to educate people about the game and what it is like for professional players. Being able to recognize some of the Parry Sound names and places that he talked about was an extra bonus for me.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to read it, or visit the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, here’s a quick overview:

Bobby Orr brought fame to Parry Sound as one of the best professional ice hockey players there ever has been. Born in Parry Sound in 1948, he was identified as a potential professional player by the age of 14. He won his first Stanley Cup in 1970 with a goal that has been immortalized in a picture that is referred to as NHL's most enduring image. Due to a knee injury, Bobby officially retired as a professional hockey player in 1979 at the age of 30. He is now a player representative, providing his clients with the security of contracts and guiding them through the learning process of managing their money.

A strong supporter of Parry Sound, Bobby visits regularly, and undertakes fundraising activities on a regular basis for the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame. This building was created to share his achievements with his hometown and visitors, and to recognize others that have contributed to sports both at the local and national level.

May 28, 2016 is a special date for the Hall of Fame.  The focus of the annual Induction Ceremony will be focusing on the contributions of youth, ages 7 – 17 in the Parry Sound area. Right now, nominations are open for male and female candidates who have demonstrated leadership, enthusiasm, perseverance and skill in their area of expertise – and not just in sports

If you would like the opportunity to meet Bobby Orr, then watch the Hall of Fame’s web site for more information. While we have been fortunate to host Bobby at 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast, in the past, he is not staying here this time. However, you can! Check our room availability here.
