Celebrate Canada Day in Parry Sound!
Canada Day occurs on July 1st, the anniversary of Canada’s confederation in 1867. Canadians commemorate the day with parades, fireworks, cookouts, and concerts. And no one does Canada Day better than Parry Sound.
According to Environment Canada, the weather will be great – a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 23 degrees.
Starting at 11:00 at the Stockey Centre, there are activities for the whole family. From a kid’s zone to food and craft vendors, music comes in many forms throughout the afternoon. You can pull up a seat on the patio and enjoy everything from a pipe and drum corps starting at noon to local fiddlers “The Terry Little Band”. Later in the afternoon is a blues trio; and in the evening enjoy Just4Kix with their special mix of rock. During the fireworks, music will be supplied by the Sunny Slope Bootleggers.
If you’re looking for a little more action, check out the activity over by Georgian Bay Airways. Besides their great sightseeing rides, they have teamed up with White Squall Paddling Centre for free kayak and canoe rides in the “Blackfly II”, a 20 person canoe! You’ll get to see Parry Sound the way it was seen for hundreds of years - from the water!
Golf courses are open for business and most are offering a special BBQ dinner to help celebrate the day.
For a unique dining experience, the MV Chippewa is offering a sunset dinner cruise with the option to remain on board to see the fireworks at dusk.
I am pleased to report that there still are tickets to the annual Festival of the Sound Canada Day cruise aboard the Island Queen. Leaving the town dock at 7:00 p.m., music this year will be provided by End of the Road. Always a foot-tapping good time, this is THE best venue to see the fireworks that are hosted by the Town of Parry Sound.
If you want a hassle-free way to celebrate Canada Day in Parry Sound, you can also plan a stay at 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast. We provide off-street parking so that you won’t have to search for a place to park; we are just a short stroll to all the venues mentioned above, and you can always just sit back and relax in one of our many indoor or outdoor areas to watch the world go by, and see the fireworks. So, what are you waiting for? Click here to find out if we still have room for you on July 1st!
