February is Fabulous in Parry Sound

With a great base of snow on the ground, winter is in full swing in Parry Sound!dog sled

Besides all the things that 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast has listed on the Things to See and Do page, there are a couple of special events that we all look forward to in February.

The first weekend in February brings Parry Sound’s Annual Snowfest - an event filled weekend designed to delight kiddies and adults alike. Starting on Friday (February 6th), you can enjoy nature at its best with a bonfire, skating and tobogganing at Kinsmen’s Park, or the Fisherman’s “Ball” Dinner and Dance. Saturday and Sunday will keep you moving so you don’t notice the cold with an ice fishing derby, curling bonspiel, a 3-on-3 hockey tourney and polar dip. (If you want to get off the ice, Downtown Parry Sound will be alive with kids activities, hot chocolate and maybe even a sale or two!

If you are into cross-country skiing, then you are in luck! On Sunday February 8th, “The Sounder Tour” takes place at Georgian Nordic Ski Club. With Classic events starting at 10:00 am, different distance categories set off going every 10 minutes. At 11:00 a.m. Free technique events start.

In addition, on this Sunday White Squall Paddling Centre is offering a winter hike – with the opportunity to learn more about identifying local trees and animal tracks.

Of course, there is Valentine’s Day on Saturday February 14th, and something to help every couple celebrate just the way they like it. The Stockey Centre is offering an evening of live theatre with the show “The Love List” and a wine and cheese reception.

As part of the Winter Carnival in Seguin (just south of Parry Sound), February 14th also features the 31st Annual Sled Dog Mail Run. Teams of sled dogs will carry special Canada Post “sledvelopes” to the post office in Rosseau. These sledvelops cost $3 each and can be purchased at local area post offices and specially selected stores – and can be sent to anywhere in the world.   There is also an opportunity to enjoy a ride on a sled afterwards, for a modest fee.

On Sunday February 15th, White Squall is offering another winter hiking event. You just never know what you might see, or meet on this outings!

To close off the month, the Ontario Masters will be held at Georgian Nordic.  This year, they are trying a new format, with both 10 k and 20 k competitive and recreational classes of races.

We would love for you to come and visit 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast and take advantage of the fun February brings!
